For a long time I would have signed immediately if someone had told me "Periods are nothing but annoying." I was never a big fan of my periods and I didn't really celebrate them when I was 13 when I saw the first small blood stains in my panties. I found it all rather uncomfortable.

Paradox that I am with my side today www.PrettyPrettyWell.com I've become a period blogger, so to speak, with shiny eyes when it comes to hormone balance and femininity. How did it come about?

My attitude towards my period didn't change until it stopped. Unfortunately, it is often the case that you only appreciate something when it is no longer there. I used the NuvaRing for contraception after I had swallowed the pill for years. The NuvaRing was just so practical - as I said, I really wanted to deal with all the period stuff as little as possible. Until then, the tide was out and there was no monthly withdrawal bleeding, for months.

My gynecologist initially stayed cool and said that this could happen to girls my age (27) who are also quite slim (body fat percentage around 17%). However, 6 months later she got nervous because my blood estrogen level was practically zero. Diagnosis: amenorrhea.

Ameno-what?

Amenorrhea - missed periods for more than 6 months. If the amenorrhea occurs in connection with the pill, that is also called Post pill amenorrheaOr secondary amenorrhea. My gynecologist advised me to stop using the NuvaRing immediately, which I did, despite my fear of the risks and side effects of stopping my hormonal contraceptives that I had heard of (acne, weight gain, hair loss, etc.). But after weaning I actually felt better than ever! I felt free, strong, wild and ... feminine.

I felt great! But something was missing. Even after 2 years I haven't had my period back. None of the doctors I visited in the meantime could help me because I had no acute desire to have children. Your only option: back to the pill. But that was out of the question for me.

So in 2017 I decided to go looking for my period, my "missing piece" and my hormone balance myself. To document the whole thing and to encourage other girls with my story, I started my blog www.prettyprettywell.com. And what can I say - it worked! After only 3-4 months I managed to get my period back naturally after more than 2 years of amenorrhea. I just say #healthyourself

Happy Periods: The E-Book

It was probably above all the holistic approach with which I was finally able to heal my amenorrhea by myself and bring my hormones into balance. I took on the following areas:

My diet

Yes, I admit it, maybe I really weighed a little too little during the time of my amenorrhea. In doing so, I learned that the hormone balance is not so much about the BMI as it is Body fat percentage. For me, a body fat percentage of 17% already works to have a healthy cycle, although one often reads that a healthy body fat percentage for women is 20-25%. Every body is different.

Too little body fat means stress for the body. and Stress is poison for our hormonal balance. A long-term calorie deficit signals to the body that it is in some kind of famine - which is definitely not a good time to get pregnant.

So for me it meant eating properly, especially (mostly healthy;)) carbohydrates. I paid attention to the sufficient supply with Macronutrients (Fats, carbohydrates and proteins) and Micronutrients (here all iron, vitamin B12, folic acid in the first place).

I also switched my diet to mainly warm food - I learned that from TCM and Ayurveda. Before, my diet consisted mainly of lettuce, raw vegetables, yogurt and baked goods - today my hormones and I can live a life without a warming one Breakfast porridge no longer imagine.

My sports program

My sports program was also scrutinized. In the days of amenorrhea, an intense HIIT workout along with regular 10km running sessions and half marathons was part of my normal sports routine. As part of my amenorrhea recovery, I stopped that for a while. I left out everything that was too strenuous to love my body and my endocrine system. As I said: stress is poison for our body.

Alternatively, I attended yoga classes and dance classes. Just female sports in which you work with and not against your body. Through my amenorrhea healing path, yoga as a sport and way of life has become an integral part of my life. Now I am even a yoga teacher myself. And hormone yoga teacher.

I also discovered hormone yoga during my amenorrhea healing path and gave it the predicate particularly valuable to me. Hormone yoga is an exercise practice that consists of various asanas and breathing techniques that stimulate hormone production and has been shown to increase hormone levels. All natural and with no side effects.

My psyche

As a third point in the search for hormone balance and the healing of my amenorrhea, I buttoned my beliefs and my attitude towards my body and my femininity. I started meditating and avoiding things that were causing me psychological stress. For example, I changed jobs and became more and more creative.

Today I feel better than ever. Naturally, I managed to overcome my amenorrhea, get back to a regular cycle without pain, and bring my endocrine system into balance. I feel healthy and happy. My skin is glowing and pure, I am maintaining my ideal weight and enjoying a healthy libido.

You can find the details of my healing path on my blog www.prettyprettywell.com, or in my book “Happy Periods. Back to the cycle in 10 steps ”. www.prettyprettywell.com/book
